THE SCHOOL
The IECR takes great care in offering high quality intensive Spanish programs at reasonable prices. We also distinguish ourselves by personalized attention to all our students. Group classes take place in small groups and therefore also in group lessons personalized attention is guaranteed.
Moreover, we are the only Institute that offers the special package 2x1 which is a very attractive offer, especially to couples and students.
FACILITIES
The IECR offers Computer Lab, cafeteria, TV room, free Internet access as well as wireless Internet connection, free export quality Costa Rican coffee, free library access, free usage of films in Spanish language, 24 hour airport pick up and transfer to the host family, tours with student discounts, free cultural activities like Latin American dance classes, cooking lessons, visits to different cultural institutions etc.
ACCREDITATIONS AND MEMBERSHIPS
Our Institute has been accredited by the Costa Rican Ministry of Public Education in the year 1995.
The medical Spanish courses are accredited by the University of Texas at Galveston, UTMB.
The IECR maintains a partnership for Study Abroad Programs with Coastal Carolina University (USA).
Our Institute is also member of ACTFL and CANATUR (National Chamber of Tourism).
The Spanish programs are recognized by the German Ministries of Education (Bildungsurlaub).
ADVANTAGES OF SCHOOL LOCATION
The Spanish spoken in Costa Rica is considerably clearer and has no accent in comparison with other Latin American Spanish speaking countries such as Ecuador or Guatemala. Since Spanish speakers in Costa Rica tend to speak noticeably more slowly than in Spain, oral communication in everyday life is easier, too. |

The average number of student at our Institute is between 25 and 35.

All age ranges between 18 and 80 are represented at our institute, however most students are in their early 20s and the average age is between 20 and 30.

DO STUDENTS KEEP PROVIDED MATERIAL?
The pedagogic material used consists of books which have been designed for the fastest progress in learning Spanish as foreign language. The books as well as additional text copies are a product of years of experience in language teaching and are included in the Spanish program. They are therefore a free gift to our students.
IS AIRPORT PICKUP OFFERED?
Pick-up from the international airport San José (called Juan Santamaría) to the host family is included in all our Spanish programs with homestay. For students participating in a program without homestay we offer the pick service and transfer to the hotel/appartment in San Jose at the cost of $20. |

PRIVATE LESSONS ( 20 per week) : $235usd per week without homestay, $305usd with homestay
These programs include:
- Airport pick-up and transfer to the host family
- Housing with a Costa Rican family from Sunday before the course starts till the last day of the course
- 4 or 6 hours of Spanish instruction per day from Monday through Friday (an hour consists of 60 minutes)
- Orientation session, welcoming to Costa Rica
- Placement test, personal interview

- Maps of Costa Rica and tourist information
- Conference or video presentation of Costa Rican national parks
- Video presentation of Costa Rica as a tourist attraction

New courses start every Monday. However, we operate on an open-enrollment basis so you can start our Spanish programs on other days as well, although we recommend starting on a Monday.
Possible activities: Trips to different volcanoes (Poás, Irazú, Arenal and Hot Thermal Springs "Tabacon"), White Water Rafting Tours in tropical rivers, excursions to National Parks (for example Tortuguero National Park), to the Orosi Valley/Orchid, Orchid Garden "Lankester", to the Handicraft Village Grecia/Sarchi, trips with the Rain Forest Aerial Tram, visits to a nearby butterfly farm as well as coffee plantation, etc.
The programs with excursions (Programs II and IV) include one excursion on Wednesdays during class-time.
Concerning additional one or two days’ excursions, for example on the weekends, we dispose of an extra list and you can reserve those tours directly at our site at students’ rates: There are national parks, beaches, islands, water falls, canopy and white water rafting tours as well as resorts amongst them!
